Open Source Collaboration Mechanisms in the TYPO3 project.

Presentation Slides: OSCM_TYPO3.pdf

Topics: TYPO3 is one of the most widespread Open Source CMS projects, both in use (+ 35000 installations) and in participating constributors (+ 400) with more than 11000 registered users. TYPO3 was initially developed by a single person (Kasper Skårhøj) and only in July 2002 an interface for contributing own modules (called extensions) was introduced to the community. Since then participation and contribution, both regarding functionality and documentation has soared to 500 published modules of various origins. Alongside the development of core related features has been reorganised and is evolving into a model of partnership between interested users and companies and a core team around TYPO3's inventor.
We are proposing to explain the many levels of participation, both based on the technical background regarding the module API, documentation efforts, but also core related work and the business models that fuel it. The speech would cover the various types of contributions by practical examples, the mechanisms of review and distrbiution and the fund raising campaigns we have been running for the last two years. We will report on successes and failures in terms of collaboration throughout the projects 7-year-history and the dynamics different models have developed and the momentum this has exerted. We will also show the web-based communication platform developers are using and speak about future plans and ideas.

The speech is held by Daniel Hinderink, responsible for Innovation and Marketing and Dominic Brander, TYPO3 representative in Switzerland.
